Listening is a difficult skill, which is made more difficult by the fact that you can’t learn listening from a book! We can only improve our listening by listening. It’s a good idea to start a habit of listening/watching English programmes or films. We will regularly introduce good legal audio/video material at Legal English Help.
This weeks audio focusses on the international legal problems faced by the many countries whose ships are being hijacked at sea by the Somalian Pirates. Many wonder why they are not just shot out of the water on sight, but in fact the merchant cargo ships, the insurers, and the many State navies are also caught in a mesh of overlapping laws of the sea. And countries like Denmark, the EU and the US are at loggerheads about how to handle it all.
